Boy stabbed in city centre horror attack near tram stop as police launch probe

A boy has been rushed to hospital after being stabbed near a tram stop.

Police and paramedics were called to Portland Street in Manchester following reports of a knife attack at around 8.15pm on Monday. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, the victim - whose age has not been disclosed - was taken to hospital from the scene.

A number of police vehicles raced to the incident near Piccadilly Gardens, with the busy main road taped off for a number of hours amid investigations into the horror attack. A large cordon has been set up and buses have been diverted as police worked at the scene.

No arrests have been made in relation to the attack, with investigations ongoing. The victim's injuries were described as serious but non life-threatening.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 8.15pm this evening (Monday August 12 2024), we were called to reports of a stabbing on Portland Street in the city centre.

"A boy has been taken to hospital for treatment to injuries that are described as not-life threatening. No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing."
