A 16-year-old boy has been stabbed repeatedly outside Manchester‘s Arndale Centre.

The teenager was attacked just before 4:30pm on Saturday on one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

The boy was found injured on Church Street, next to the centre, and then rushed to the hospital.

He’s currently in a stable condition after receiving treatment.

Tess Page, who lives on Church Street, described seeing blood splatter and “a massive police presence” when she got home.

She told Manchester Evening News: “It looked to me like something that had started somewhere else and finished somewhere else.”

Social media videos showed a substantial police presence at the location.

A twitter user posted footage of the scene after the stabbing that can be viewed below:

Detective inspector Jen Tattersall, of Greater Manchester Police, added: “This is an awful incident, which has left a teenage boy in hospital and my thoughts are with him as he receives treatment.”

“I understand that this incident and a large police presence in the city centre is likely to cause concern among members of the public.

“However, I would like to reassure those worried that we believe this to be an isolated incident.
