The mum of brave Bradley Lowery has revealed that doctors are finding ‘new lumps and bumps each day’ as his condition deteriorates.

Gemma shared the update on the health of her son, who is battling neuroblastoma, with a picture of the smiling six-year-old who has captured the heart of the nation.

She wrote on Facebook: “Bradley has had a lovely weekend at his grandparents caravan. He is still sleeping a lot but when he is awake he is his quirky little self.

“We have had our orders and he wants to go swimming so hopefully get to do that in the next few days even if he only gets in for 5 minutes.

“Although he seems to be doing ok on the outside we are finding new lumps and bumps each day so inside is obviously changing fast.

“We taking each day as it comes and treasuring every smile and we still hoping to go away somewhere close to home so we can enjoy some quality family time at end of this week.

“Last week when I was told Brad had weeks to live I was obviously heart broken and the thought of only having a few weeks was unbearable.

“When I look at him now I can’t believe it’s true it is hard to think he is so poorly, I start to question what I’ve been told. I know it is only wishful thinking on my behalf but when he gives me this smile he looks so well.”

A week ago, Gemma said: “Sorry for the lack of updates I’ve needed some time to digest some information.

“Bradley has been having radio therapy to help control the pain he was having in his leg.

“This has helped but unfortunately pain has started else where now due to tumours growing all over.”

“I was told Bradley has now only got weeks to live because of how rapid the cancer is spreading.

“Yes I knew this was coming but I thought it was going to be months not weeks. My heart is broken in two, it is too soon for this to happen, it should never be happening to start with.

“My baby has had to put up with so much over the past 4 years and now he has to suffer a painful death. How is that fair??? Why should any parent have to be put through this heart ache???”

Gemma, her partner Carl, 32, and brother Kieran, 15, were told that Bradley was suffering from the rare form of childhood cancer in December 2012.

Since football fan Bradley led out Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, striker Jermain Defoe has struck up a friendship with the family.

He recently told talkSPORT: “Every day I wake up and text his mum and ask how he’s getting on and she says ‘it’s OK’, but the reality is he’s struggling.

“She put something out on social media saying he’s got a few weeks to live and she messaged me and I didn’t know what to say. It was tough, I cant put in words how I felt.”
