Scones always through up the controversial debate – clotted cream followed by jam, or jam first and then clotted cream?

As the rules go, the Devon way is clotted cream first followed by jam whereas in Cornwall, it's insisted that the jam should come first and then a dollop of clotted cream.

Either way, scones are a staple of a cream tea, so to celebrate Afternoon Tea Week, which commences from August 10th – 16th, Leisure has created a tricky brainteaser featuring an odd scone out made the Devon way.

Meanwhile, the pronunciation of scone also differs depending on area, with some pronouncing 'scone' to rhyme with 'gone', and others rhyming it with 'cone'. The pronunciation rhyming with 'cone' is strongest in the Midlands and southern Ireland, though seems to have less prominent patches in Cornwall and Essex.

The pronunciation rhyming with 'gone' is strongest in Northern England and Scotland, although also seems to be the favoured pronunciation in Southern England, Wales, the Home Counties, and East Anglia, according to The Observer.
