Brazil club accused of propaganda for far-right candidate

SAO PAULO (AP) — A Brazilian soccer club is being taken to court for allegedly endorsing a far-right presidential candidate before a national championship match.

Prosecutor Felipe Bevilacqua said on Tuesday he will charge Atletico Paranaense for having its playes wear a shirt that read "Let's go all together for our love for Brazil."

That is one of the slogans of Jair Bolsonaro, the front-runner in the Oct. 28 election.

The shirts were worn before Atletico's 4-0 win against America on Oct. 6. The club could face a fine if found guilty.

The club did ask Brazil's football confederation for permission to display the message on players' shirts, but the request was denied.

Defender Paulo Andre, who is openly against Bolsonaro, refused to wear the shirt.

Club executive Mario Celso Petraglia denied that the message was partisan.
