Aston Villa have confirmed Philippe Coutinho has joined Vasco da Gama on loan.

The 32-year-old started his career at Vasco, before he left for Inter Milan as a teenager in 2008. Villa wanted to offload Coutinho for good this summer, but instead, he will only have a year left on his contract when his loan move at the Brazilian club expires with his current deal running out in 2026.

Back in September, Coutinho joined Qatar side Al-Duhail on loan for the season, where he made 21 appearances and registered nine goal contributions, scoring six goals and recording three assists.

Coutinho joined Villa permanently in January 2022 for £17m initially on loan after former boss Steven Gerrard pushed for his signature. He signed from Barcelona for the second half of the 2021/22 campaign, and made a stunning return to the Premier League.

He recorded seven goal involvements in his first eight appearances for the club, but produced just two in his next 37 games in all competitions.

Compatriot Douglas Luiz left Villa last month to aid the club's position regarding the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), joining Juventus for £42m. It followed the sales of Tim Iroegbunam to Everton for £13m and Omari Kellyman's transfer to Chelsea for £19m.

Meanwhile, West Ham are pushing to sign Jhon Duran after a move to Chelsea stalled.
