Columbine High School, the site of an infamous 1999 massacre, was on lockdown today after police alerts of a suspicious person in the area who made threats against the school.

School officials in Jefferson County, Colorado said that 24 schools were similarly locked down as the sheriff's office advised people to avoid the area and dispatched police officers to the site.

Parents were told not to come to the schools as their children will not be let out.

Helicopter video from Columbine showed a large police presence around the school and several officers had their rifles drawn.

A bomb disposal truck was also dispatched to the area, according to local reporters.

Police blocked off an intersection at the front of the school, where two teenagers went on a shooting spree almost two decades ago, killing 13 students and wounding 20 more.
