Brenda Edwards opens up on losing son Jamal Edwards as she prepares to return to 'Loose Women'

Watch: Brenda Edwards returns to Loose Women for the first time since the death of her son

Brenda Edwards has spoken about the final moments she spent with her late son Jamal, saying that it gives her comfort to know that she was with him when he died.

The Loose Women star is due to return to the ITV daytime chat show tomorrow for the first time since losing Jamal, a music entrepreneur who died in February aged just 31.

Speaking to co-star and friend Coleen Nolan in a pre-recorded interview for Monday's show, she said: "The one thing I do want to say is I was with him and his sister was with us, we were all at home.

"It was sudden and unexpected, he went into cardiac arrest and he passed with me holding his hand.

"I get a little bit of comfort knowing I was with him, but as much as it is comfort it's an image I'm never going to forget."

Edwards, 53, also spoke about how tough she had found it that news of her son's death had circulated on social media before she had had the chance to announce it herself.

She said: "Something that was hard for me was the fact that the announcement of his passing was taken away from me and it was announced elsewhere."

Singer Edwards added "I feel his presence constantly" as she talked about the comfort she had found in her faith and in the number of people who had contacted her to say how positively Jamal had affected their lives.

Talking about his funeral, which she called his "homegoing", she said that he had left detailed plans in place that he wanted it to include references to his hometown Luton, Chelsea Football Club and music.

Edwards said that his organisation and plans that he had left behind for his businesses and foundation had meant that she was able to carry on the work the SBTV founder had planned to give chances to young people looking to get into the music industry.

Making reference to a much-shared old social media post of Jamal's that read "We all die. The goal is not to live forever, the goal is to create something that will.", she said: "I believe he has created something that will and I'm determined to make sure that it will."

Edwards returns to Loose Women tomorrow (Tuesday) at 12.30pm on ITV.
