Brentford stance confirmed on Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg Liverpool return
Liverpool face a quick reunion with two of their former players when they face Brentford this weekend. The Reds will take on the Bees at Anfield on Sunday afternoon in their second Premier League fixture of the season.
Arne Slot's team began the campaign with a 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town last weekend and will be looking for another three points in their first competitive home match of the season. And it's possible that the Reds will face two familiar faces when they take to the pitch at Anfield.
This month has seen Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg leave Liverpool to both complete moves to Brentford. The Reds agreed to a deal potentially worth up to £27.5 million for Carvalho, which includes an initial £22.5 million fee.
Van den Berg is one of the latest players to leave Anfield after he agreed a permanent move to Brentford. Liverpool struck a deal initially worth £20 million with the possibility of a further £5 million in add-ons, with the Reds also securing a 17.5% sell-on clause in the terms.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank confirmed on Friday that Carvalho will be part of the squad to face Liverpool on Sunday. Carvalho was a second-half substitute as the Bees beat Crystal Palace 2-1 last weekend in their opening fixture of the season.
In the case of Van den Berg, Frank also hinted that the centre-back could be involved in the match against his former employers. The Brentford boss said "it is possible" that Van den Berg could feature against Liverpool this weekend.
Both Carvalho and Van den Berg featured for Liverpool during the pre-season tour of the United States. However, both players left the Reds in search of regular first-team football and could now have an early chance to prove a point when Liverpool welcome Brentford at Anfield.
