Brentford are nursing Neal Maupay through a minor injury to ensure the Championship’s top scorer is available while he is such good form.

Maupy has scored eight goals already this season and the 20-year-old forward is fit to face Derby at Pride Park tomorrow, despite barely training in recent weeks.

“We are having to manage him,” said Brentford manager Dean Smith. “He has only trained three or four times since the Aston Villa game, when he got suspended.

“He is in a rich vein of form, so we want to wrap him in cotton wool and get him out there scoring goals, which he is doing very well for us.”

Maupay’s goals have helped fire Brentford to third place in the Championship, just three points behind leaders Leeds.
