Kentucky Sen Rand Paul was confronted by protesters chanting Breonna Taylor’s name just a short distance from the White House at around midnight on the night of August 27-28.
Video footage from the scene shows protesters surrounding Paul and his wife, Kelley, with the couple flanked by a number of DC police officers. The crowd chant Breonna Taylor’s name at a number of points, and shout at Paul, “Say her name!” At one point, a minor scuffle between a police officer holding a bicycle and a protester ensues.
The Pauls were reportedly walking to their hotel following the Republican National Convention event at the White House earlier that evening.
Taylor was shot and killed by police in Louisville, Kentucky, after they broke down the door of her apartment in a botched no-knock raid in March. The incident prompted Paul to introduce the Justice for Breonna Taylor Act to prohibit no-knock warrants.
Paul later tweeted thanking police for “saving our lives from a crazed mob.” Credit: Brendan Gutenschwager via Storyful
