The breweries helping you to buy NHS workers a pint during the coronavirus crisis

You’ve joined the weekly applause on a Thursday evening — and grabbed a saucepan and a wooden spoon to really raise the roof. Another way to show your appreciation for the heroes in scrubs? Buy them a pint!

South London institution Gipsy Hill Brewery is inviting customers on its online store, which is doing a roaring trade in its signature IPAs, sours and lagers during lockdown, to buy the NHS a pint at the checkout. “While we don’t have an abundance of PPE or raw materials to donate,” the team points out, “we do have a warehouse full of beer.” Cheers to that (£5, gipsyhillbrew.com).

On Glasgow-based Brew Gooder’s website, you can send a four-pack of beers to one or more “NHS champions”. It’s been a hit: in the first 48 hours of the campaign, customers bought more than 4,000 beers for NHS workers (£6, brewgooder.com).

And Cloudwater Brewery is offering a 25 per cent discount on all its beers to NHS workers — just sign up with your NHS email address to claim. Its Please Be Nice To Each Other pale ale feels like the right pint to order just now (shop.cloudwaterbrew.co).
