Brexit news LIVE: EU leaders encourage Britain to be decisive despite Article 50 delay

Theresa May is facing unrest in her party and pressure from the EU despite the bloc agreeing to allow a short extension to Article 50.

Britain has been offered a plan by Europe which would move the departure date from March 29 until May 22 if Mrs May triumphs in a third meaningful vote.

However, Mrs May returned from Brussels facing the task of winning MPs over to her proposals, with some right wing Tories calling for her to rescind her leadership.

EU leaders also pushed for a resolution, with German chancellor Angela Merkel saying: "We have for the time being prevented a no-deal Brexit for the 29th. But these are very short periods of time, so Britain will have to make clear yet again which path it wishes to pursue."
