Brexit news as it happened: Theresa May dealt blow as Michel Barnier rules out time-limited backstop

Theresa May has been dealt a further blow in her attempts to push through a Brexit deal after the EU's chief negotiator ruled out a time-limited backstop.

Michel Barnier described such a concession would render the proposal "useless", while Scotland's First Minister Nicola Sturgeon also criticised the PM's negotiations after meeting her at Downing Street.

This came after the Prime Ministers told MP's to decide “if they want to have no deal, agree a deal or have no Brexit” as she battles to get her proposed withdrawal deal through Parliament.

As pressure mounted further on Mrs May, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn also used PMQs to urge her to rule out a no-deal Brexit and open the door to a customs union with the EU.
