St Mirren boss Stephen Robinson will appoint Brian Kerr as his new assistant manager.

Record Sport understands the former Motherwell and Newcastle United player will step up from his role at the head of the Buddies Academy. Kerr will replace Diarmuid O’Carroll, who is moving to St James' Park after compensation was agreed with the English Premier League side.

The 42-year-old already has frontline experience in his own right with Albion Rovers and East Kilbride. Kerr, who has also been assistant manager at Partick Thistle, first worked for Robinson at Motherwell. He was under-18 boss for the Lanarkshire side.
Kerr then moved up to assistant manager at Motherwell when Stevie Hammell got the top job. He joined St Mirren last year, initially working with the under-18s but has impressed Robinson and will now make the step up to the first-team. It will see Robinson shake-up his backroom team having previously worked with O'Carroll at Motherwell, Morecambe and St Mirren.
