Brian Laundrie: Authorities in Florida find no trace of missing man after sighting on deer cam

Authorities in Florida investigating a possible sighting of Brian Laundrie captured on a deer camera say they have found no sign of the missing man.

The Oskaloosa County Sheriff’s Office used drones as part of their extensive search of woodland near Baker, Florida, after a local man thought he might have spotted Mr Laundrie, 23, hiking in the area on Monday morning.

The sheriff’s office provided an update to media on Tuesday afternoon to say the search had turned up nothing of note.

Sam Bass posted a picture of the Monday morning encounter near the town of Baker, Florida, about 500 miles away from Mr Laundrie’s home in North Port.

“I’m not saying this is the guy but whoever was on my trail camera this morning in Baker, Fl strongly fits the description of Brian Laundrie.

“Authorities have been contacted but people in the North West Florida area be on the look out.”

In a statement, the sheriff’s office said: “The OCSO did its due diligence in response to this report and is wrapping up an extensive search that took place in this area to also include nearby farmlands and a search by drone. No one - and nothing - of note was located.

“There are no known possible past or current connections between Laundrie and anyone in this area at this time to follow up on. In the meantime we will remain vigilant and if anything new of significance develops we will share.”

Mr Laundrie was has not been seen since leaving his parent’s home last Tuesday, and telling them he was going for a hike in the nearby Carlton Reserve.

He has since been named a person of interest in the disappearance of his girlfriend Gabby Petito, 22, whose body is believed to have been found in Wyoming on Sunday.

Police returned to the 25,000 acre Carlton Reserve on Tuesday to search for Mr Laundrie.
