Brittney Rae (@brittneyraetoday) captioned the video, “Watch me try to make my bridesmaid dress less ugly before the wedding this weekend.”

“I paid $300 for this frumpy robe,” she said of the floor-length wrap dress, which was dark green with long sleeves. The TikTok video has since been viewed almost 2 million times.

In the clip, Rae showed her final designs for the dress before getting to work. The alterations included shortening the sleeves, adjusting the dress’s length and a redesign of the bodice.

“If I mess up I have nothing to wear and the bride will KILL ME,” she said.

In a follow-up video, Rae revealed that her hard work paid off and the new dress matched her design perfectly.

“I had to completely deconstruct it first,” she wrote in the text overlay on the clip. “I was a little stressed.”

Commenters seemed to lose their minds over Rae’s decision and jumped to the conclusion that she was trying to upstage the bride. It did not help that Rae jokingly hashtagged #donttellthebride.

“Her wedding is not about you!” a user wrote.

“You would be taken out of my bridal party [if] you did this to the dress I picked out for you,” another added.

“Imagine thinking you’re the main character at someone’s wedding,” someone said.

In reality, the bride herself commented on both of Rae’s videos insisting that she loved the alterations and that she only picked the color, not the gown itself.

“Hi, bride here,” she commented. “They picked their own dresses in green. I LOVE what she did to her dress.”

Rae even posted a sweet montage of the wedding as an “update to the bridesmaid dress saga.”

“See, all y’all were worried about her trying to upstage the bride,” a commenter said. “But no one could upstage her in that dress and with that smile!!”
