Bridesmaids star Rose Byrne has gone full '80s in her role as Sheila Rubin in the upcoming Apple TV+ comedy-drama Physical.
The 10-episode original series – which centres on Sheila as played by the Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated actress – just unveiled its first trailer.
Set in the beach paradise that is 1980s San Diego, idyllic on the surface yet fragile underneath, Sheila appears as a dutiful, though quietly tortured housewife, which puts taking care of her family before her own needs and desires.
Her controversial husband (played by Superstore's Rory Scovel) receives her full support as he makes a bid for state assembly, while in her head she reveals herself to be more opinionated and sharp than she lets on.
To support his campaign, Sheila has to find employment and manages to turn her newfound passion for aerobics into a booming business with the burgeoning technology of videotape.
Battling with her own set of demons related to her self-image, Sheila will soon find a release and eventually true empowerment in the world of aerobics.
To round out the cast are New Amsterdam's Dierdre Friel as Greta, House of Cards' Paul Sparks as John Breem, Della Saba as Bunny and Ian Ousley as Zeke Breem.
Directed by Craig Gillespie (I, Tonya), Liza Johnson and Stephanie Laing, the show is created by Annie Weisman and is set to premiere globally on June 18 on Apple TV+.
