Bridgwater’s Christmas lights and squibbing display returns
Bridgwater is set to sparkle this holiday season with the much-anticipated Snowflakes and Shopping Christmas lights switch-on event. Mark your calendars for Saturday, 23 November 2024.
The festivities will begin at 10:00 am at the Cornhill, Fore Street and High Street.
Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy a variety of market stalls and street food, and for the young and young at heart, a special visit from Father Christmas will add an extra touch of magic to the day.

The highlight of the day will be the grand switch-on of Bridgwater’s iconic Christmas lights at 6:00pm, performed by Mayor of Bridgwater, Cllr Jacqui Solomon. This magical moment will officially usher in the holiday season, illuminating the town with a warm, festive glow.
“I am thrilled to be part of this wonderful tradition that brings our community together,” said Cllr Jacqui Solomon. “The Snowflakes and Shopping event is a fantastic way to kick off the festive season, and I look forward to seeing everyone there.”
But the excitement doesn’t end there! At 6:30pm, attendees will be treated to a spectacular squibbing display on Bridgwater Town Bridge, a unique tradition that brings a taste of the famous Bridgwater Carnival to the Christmas celebrations.
Cornhill and High Street will be closed to traffic from 8:00am to 8:00pm to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all attendees.
This festive celebration is organised by Bridgwater Town Council and the Bridgwater Town Team in partnership with the Bridgwater Food and Drink Festival.
This is also the perfect opportunity to launch the annual Bridgwater Town Team Christmas Shop Window competition, judged by Mayor Jacqui Solomon, encouraging local businesses to get creative with their festive displays.
Windows should be ready for judging before 13 December 2024.
