IN BRIEF: Whitesboro art show runs through Sunday

Mar. 9—The Whitesboro Parks and Recreation Department will conclude its 16th community art show Saturday and Sunday at the Jimmie O. Rector Community Center.

The show is open to all area artists to submit their art work for viewing, and there's no charge for entrants or anyone who comes to partake of the work.

The show runs Saturday with viewing available from 10 a.m.-5 pm, and again on Sunday from noon-5 p.m. There is no charge for admission.

Whaley UMC dinner March 21

Whaley Methodist Church is getting ready to host its 66th annual chicken spaghetti dinner Thursday, March 21, from 5-7 p.m.

All proceeds from ticket sales go towards local non-profits. The tickets are $15 each with children under five free.

The dinner includes chicken spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, dessert, and drink. There is also a country store full of homemade goods.

The Chicken Spaghetti dinner was started by Elsie Talbot who's recipe has been passed down from the first dinner prepared by The Whaley Methodist Women in 1958. The whole church volunteers now, along with many members of the community.

This year's charities are The Boys and Girls Club, VISTO, CASA, Abigail's Arms, and Noah's Ark.

The tickets are available by purchasing at the door or from a member of the church. Attendees may carry-out or eat in the large dining area.

Special service at St. Pete's

St. Peter's Catholic Church, 424 Main St. in Lindsay, will celebrate a Divine Mercy Sunday service April 7 at 3 p.m.

A relic of St. Faustina will be present for veneration. Confessions will be hear between 2 and 2:45 p.m.

Murder 76240 coming to State Theater

Sign-ups are available for VISTO's 14th annual Murder 76240 for this year.

This mystery night at Gainesville's State Theater is VISTO's main fundraiser for the year.

This year's theme is Battle of the Bands.

For the first time, there will be two nights of Murder 76240.

The first night on April 18 is the traditional night for teams of eight, with the second night on April 19 being a night for teams of two.

There's room for 25 teams on Thursday and 50 couples on Friday.

Sign-ups are available on the VISTO website at vistohelps.com/visto-events. The deadline is March 22 to get a t-shirt.

The fee for April 18's teams is $250 and the fee for April 19's couples is $100.

AARP tax help

AARP tax assistance packets are now available at the Cooke County Library in downtown Gainesville.

This packets include instructions on how to prepare 2023 tax returns. Clients will need to fill out the booklet and then contact AARP, as per the instructions attached with it.

Clients will need to make appointments this year. Instructions on how to make appointments will be attached with the AARP paperwork.

Appointments will be from 1-4 p.m. on Tuesdays only.

At this time, this service will be offered until Tuesday, April 9.

The library staff has no involvement with this service. The library is just the location, and the AARP Tax Aides are volunteers.
