New Brighton's answer to Baltic Triangle gets new addition
A new deli-art bar has opened on the Wirral with a familiar face at its helm. Found on Victoria Road in New Brighton’s Victoria Quarter, District House is the brainchild of music legend Jayne Casey and her partner Eric Gooden.
Jayne, an artistic director, is best known for being involved in the Liverpool punk and new wave scene in the 1970s and 1980s, with Big in Japan, Pink Military, and Pink Industry. Since then, she has tried her luck in the hospitality industry. After having success helping establish the Baltic Triangle, Jayne has now returned to New Brighton—a place where she said it all started for her.
Jayne said: “My mother died when I was five and my father was an alcoholic, so as a kid, I’d bounce around children’s homes — running away at any opportunity. As a teen, I escaped to New Brighton and worked jobs to get my own flat there.

"Until finally, my old headmistress found me and encouraged me to study for my exams. I ended up working in Liverpool, got involved in the music scene, and the rest is history.”
Her latest venture prides itself on being a creative hub where you can find coffee, food, drink, art, and music. The light, spacious and informal hangout features leftfield pop art for sale on its walls, where its grazing menu serves up artisan charcuterie boards, fish platters, homemade soup, and scouse.
Resident DJs grace the back room at weekends, spinning vinyl sets, and the venue has already had some unforgettable nights in its infancy. In the near future, the venue is set to host a range of events, including vintage markets, exhibitions and book launches.
Jayne said: “It’s been quite a journey when I look back. Eric and I still have District in The Baltic Triangle, an inclusive space for diverse music and club nights, but it feels really special to open a venue in New Brighton — where it all began for me.
“New Brighton was such a great place to run away to as a teen and it represented an escape from my troubled childhood, I now want to give back to the town that gave to me some 50 years ago.
“It’s great to be part of this movement here in New Brighton. It reminds me of The Baltic Triangle movement when we took back the buildings from the big banks and corporations and made it an independently owned creative district.
"I admire what (Rockpoint Leisure CEO) Dan Davies has done here in The Victoria Quarter — it’s a triumph for creativity and we’re thrilled to be involved.”
