Bristol football fan reunited with Wembley Stadium staff who saved his life

A football fan from Bristol who suffered a heart attack during an England game at Wembley Stadium has been reunited with the medical team who saved his life. Antonello Tordio travelled to watch England v Italy in a crunch Euro 2024 qualifier in October 2023.

Unfortunately during the game, the 62-year-old collapsed in the stand. Several members of the stadium's medical team worked together for 30 minutes to treat Antonello before he was safely taken to hospital.

Despite spending several days in a coma, Antonello thankfully has since made a full recovery. Wembley Stadium invited him to the FA Cup Final between Manchester United and Manchester City and, on an emotional first return to the stadium since the heart attack, Antonello met up with the stadium’s medical team.

Antonello said: “Without the team’s swift intervention I wouldn’t be here today. My family would be without a husband, father and son. I have been blessed with life and am thankful for being alive.”

Head of medical at Wembley Stadium Mark Cutler added: “It’s great to see Antonello has made a full recovery and it was a pleasure seeing him back at Wembley once again. His life hung in the balance for quite some time and our team worked hard to give him the best chance of survival.”
