A pair of Bristol newlyweds celebrated their wedding in style.... by running parkrun in their wedding gear the morning after. Michael Malley and Marie Monaghan exchanged rings yesterday (Friday, Nov 8) at The Mount Without on St Michael's Hill.

Despite the celebrations going on way past midnight, the couple, both 38 and paediatric consultants at Bristol Children's Hospital, were up and running 5k at Ashton Court Park at 9am today. Marie wore her wedding dress and hair band, while Michael wore his waistcoat and suit.

Marie joked: "We managed to scrape ourselves out of bed this morning!". In a heart-warming gesture, 'six or seven' of their friends came out to run with them.

Michael, who works in the hospital's emergency department, said: "Running's a big part of our social life and it seemed the natural thing to do. It was a bit warm in the suit and there was a certain amount of chaffing, but we really enjoyed it. It got our new life off to a flying start."

Marie and Michael met in 2010 at the start of their medical careers and first became a couple in 2011. They plan to go on their honeymoon to France next week.

Ashton Court parkrun is a weekly event which is free and open to the public. Participants can walk, run, jog, or cheer on from the sidelines.
