Queues-out-the-door popular. Arrive early and grab a seat. It’s a short menu, and both the fried kimchi rice and beef brisket ramen arrive in blisteringly hot ceramic bowls and continue to cook at the table’.

Where: 31 Baldwin Street, Bristol, BS1 1RG. Best for: Casual dining. BBC Good Food says: ‘The short, modestly priced and largely Italian influenced menu drives you to order many of the little dishes, switching things around, always with wines to match’.

BBC Good Food says: ‘Cousins Dominic Borel and Ben and Joe Harvey stick closely to their roots, and the menu here is all-out Italian. Where: 21 Cotham Road South, Cotham, Bristol, BS6 5TZ. Best for: Special occasion. BBC Good Food says: ‘Michelin-starred Bulrush just seems to get better and better. Chef George Livesey’s classical training with the Roux brothers shows in his elegant eight-course tasting menu’.
Where: 277 North Street, Southville, Bristol, BS3 1JP. Best for: Cheap eats, casual dining. BBC Good Food says: ‘Serving one of Bristol’s most interesting brunch menus, Souk Kitchen offers dishes like broad bean falafels, carrot and beetroot salad with tahini and lemon’.
