Police were scrambled to a Bristol Tesco superstore today following the discovery of a 'suspicious object.'

The building in Lime Trees Road was evacuated with a 100m cordon put in place while bomb disposal experts attended the scene.

One reader who alerted BristolLive to the drama said; "do you what's happened at Tesco Golden Hill? Store is closed until tomorrow. All taped off by the police."

Police confirmed the item was removed and the incident was in the end deemed to be a 'false alarm.'

An Avon and Somerset Police statement said: "We were called at 5.37pm today to a business address in Lime Trees Road in the Golden Hill area of Bristol after a suspicious object was discovered.

“The building was evacuated and a 100m cordon put in place as a precaution while the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit attended.

“The item was safely removed and the incident was confirmed as a false alarm with good intent.”
