Bristol's best fish and chips as Kingswood chippy takes top spot
A fish and chip shop on the outskirts of Bristol has been crowned the area's best by our readers. Last month, we asked you what Bristol's best chippy is.
Having received nearly 100 votes, we then announced the shortlist with the top five that got the most mentions. And, after just over thousand votes were cast, Marios Fish Bar on Pool Road, Kingswood, is the clear winner after receiving 586 votes.
The fish bar in South Gloucestershire was the highest-rated chip shop in the city last year too. Marios Fish Bar has 555 reviews on Google, with an average rating of 4.8.

One reviewer said: "The food here is absolutely delicious!! My husband and I love the cheesy chips they have, we order then every time."
And another one said: "The best chip shop in the local area without a doubt a great menu to choose from at a very reasonable price. Also do gluten free options for you people that require that. Best to order ahead for pick as gets extremely busy at times."
Mario's veggie options also get praise: "My favourite fish and chip shop in Bristol. I used to get it delivered when I lived closer, but since moving house, I am not in their delivery radius.
"I tried other chip shops, but nothing compares to Mario’s! So, I always make the trip over to go and grab my favourite me takeaway when I can. I am vegetarian and they always have good veggie options. I tend to choose their battered halloumi and garlic mushrooms, and they always give me a generous portion of cheese on my cheesy chips too! Would definitely recommend."
In second place came Hamblins on Avonvale Road, Barton Hill, (391 votes), and coming third was Argus Fish Bar on West Street, Bedminster (107 votes). They were followed by Fish and Fry on St Marks Road, Easton (56 votes) and Star Fish Bar on Bedminster Road (47 votes).
Earlier this month, we also revealed that a pub in Bristol city centre serves the city's best Sunday roast, according to our readers. After more than 700 votes being cast, The Famous Royal Navy Volunteer on King Street was the clear winner after receiving 310 votes.
We have also found what the city's best greasy spoon is. After nearly a thousand votes were cast, Abbots Kitchen on Dundry Road, in Whitchurch, South Bristol, became winner after receiving 432 votes.
