Last month, we asked you what Bristol's best fish and chip shop is. Many places in our city serve this popular dish and we are on the hunt for the best.

While making some chunky chips and fried fish in batter may seem an easy task, there is a wide variety in the quality of fish and chips you get. The fish may not taste fresh, the chips could be undercooked or been sat there for a while; several factors may go wrong when cooking this British staple.

Having received nearly 100 votes, chippies across the city got nominated. But, as we continue our mission to find the best chips and the tastiest battered fish, we are now putting the five that got the most mentions to a vote.

Making it to the top five is Fish and Fry on St Mark's Road, Easton, which only opened its doors a year ago but has already got an award. Mario's Fish Bar on Pool Road, Kingswood, which was the highest-rated chip shop in the city last year, has also made it to the shortlist.

There are two South Bristol chippies making it to the top five: Star Fish Bar, on Bedminster Road, and Argus Fish Bar on West Street. The final nomination is for Hamblins on Avonvale Road in Barton Hill.
