Brit Award 2018 nominations: Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Paloma Faith, Dua Lipa and Little Mix among hopefuls

Dua Lipa is leading the 2018 Brit Award nominations so far with five nods, including best British female, single, album, video and breakthrough act.

The “New Rules” hit maker is up against Paloma Faith, Jessie Ware, Kate Tempest and Laura Marling in the best British female category.

Meanwhile Ed Sheeran, who smashed records this year with the release of his third album divide, faces stiff competition in the best British male category, going head-to-head with Stormzy, Liam Gallagher, Ran N Bone Man and Loyle Carner.

Sheeran has also received a nomination for best British single withShape of You”, alongside Clean Bandit and Zara Larsson with “Symphony”, Liam Payne with “Strip That Down”, Calvin Harris with “Feels”, J Hus with “Did You See” and Little Mix with “Touch”.

Dua Lipa’s “New Rules”, Rag N Bone Man’s “Human”, Jonas Blue’s “Mama” and Jax Jones’s “You Don’t Know Me” are also nominated.

And her competition in the breakthrough act category includes J Hus, Loyle Carner, Sampha and Santan Dave.

Sheeran received a third nomination in best British video, again for “Shape of You”, and is joined in the category by Dua, Clean Bandit and Zara Larrson, Calvin Harris, Anne Marie, Zayn Malik and Taylor Swift, Little Mix and Jonas Blue.

Former One Direction bandmates Liam Payne and Harry Styles will also compete against one another in the category, for their singles “Strip That Down” and “Sign of the Times” respectively.

In the best British group category, The xx face competition from Gorillaz, London Grammar, Royal Blood and Wolf Alice.

Taylor Swift, Pink, Lorde, Alicia Keys and Björk were all nominated for best international female, with Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Childish Gambino (the stage name for Donald Glover), Beck and DJ Khaled nominated for best international male.

Foo Fighters – who are confirmed to perform at this year’s ceremony – are up against Arcade Fire, The Killers, LCD Soundstyem and HAIM for best international band.

The coveted best British album category includes Dua’s self-titled album, Ed Sheeran’s divide, J Hus’ Common Sense, Stormzy’s Gang Signs & Prayer, and Rag N Bone Man’s Human.

At the ceremony to announce the nominations, Jorja Smith was also revealed as the winner of the 2018 critics’ choice BRIT Award.

The Brit Awards will take place on 21 February at London’s O2 Arena from 7.30pm/
