Speaking ahead of this year’s nominations show, The Brits Are Coming, host Clara Amfo praised the ceremony for appreciating women in music.

She told the Standard: “It feels diverse, the force is female, I think it’s really great year. I would always say women have been making incredible contributions to music - that hasn’t been an issue.

“It’s just a case of how that has been reflected and I feel that the Brits heard people’s concerns and, as someone who voted and has peers who voted, we’ve all seen the change and I think that’s really cool. Some of our favourite moments were from female artists last year so it’s only right they’re getting nods.”

Jack Whitehall will return to the stage as host after making his debut to Big Shaq’s Man’s Not Hot at last year’s ceremony.

The Brit Awards 2019 will take place at the O2 Arena on February 20.
