Britain will become the “go-to country” for futurist industries like electric cars, a Cabinet minister said today.

Greg Clark said the UK aimed to ber a global centre for new battery technology that will drive the clean cars of the future.

He spoke out as Theresa May unveiled a new pledge to identify industries that will dominate the future.

“It will back the industries of the future where Britain has the potential to lead the world,” she told a Cabinet away-day in Warrington, Cheshire. “The industries that can be the great job creators for our children and grandchildren.”

Launching the Government’s new industrial strategy, she added: “Underpinning this strategy is a new approach to government, not just stepping back and leaving business to get on with the job, but stepping up to a new, active role.”
