An 8-year-old Staffie has become the longest-serving resident at the Blue Cross rehoming centre in Burford, Oxon, after being overlooked by thousands of potential adopters.

In the past 17 months, 13,000 potential owners have come to the centre and 3,000 of them have left with a new puppy – but Kenny remains behind. His 500-day stay is 17 times longer than the centre’s one-month average stay.

'It’s such a shame as he’s a lovely dog and staffies can make fantastic pets,' said Jenna Martyn, centre manager, who believes Kenny keeps getting overlooked because of the negative perceptions associated with his breed.

'They love human company and cuddles and Kenny definitely has these wonderful staffie traits.

'When Kenny first came to us he was very nervous, but our team here have done lots of work with him and now he’s much a happier dog.

'He’s so fun and very loving – all he wants is to be snuggled up with you. It breaks my heart no-one wants to take him home.

'We’ve tried really hard to find him a suitable family, but he’s still waiting.

'There’s no time limit on how long dogs stay with us, but we’d love to see him settled in a new home soon.'

Staff say Kenny loves playing in water and travelling by car and is craving cuddles from an owner who would enjoy taking him on walks.

In an effort to find Kenny a home, he has been moved today to another Blue Cross centre in Bromsgrove, where centre managers hope they're more likely to find a home for him.
