Britain's most hated cyclist? Bike vigilante uses THREE cameras to shame reckless drivers - and he's helped convict 70 motorists

Meet David Sherry, 37, who uses cameras strapped to his helmet and bike to catch out dodgy drivers on his commute to work

A two-wheeled vigilante and self-styled 'Britain's most hated cyclist' has helped convict more than 70 drivers - after filming hundreds of careless motorists on his daily commute.

David Sherry - who himself works as a London bus driver - has strapped three cameras and a trucker's horn to his bike to capture bad driving and ward off wayward motorists.

Mr Sherry, 37, has made more than 400 videos on his 40-mile round trip commute from Harlow, Essex, which he then sends to police and councils as evidence to prosecute motorists for speeding, overtaking too close and running red lights.

The father-of-five took it upon himself to 'make the roads safer' after he was involved in an accident two-and-a-half years ago.

But not everyone appreciates his vigilantism - Mr Sherry receives regular abuse from drivers and has been assaulted twice.

In one shocking moment captured on his now-infamous GoPro camera, a driver even stops to get out his van and punch Mr Sherry in the stomach.

Mr Sherry said: 'I do what I do because I want to make our roads safer for everyone. If people follow the Highway Code there would be so many fewer accidents and casualties.’

‘I might have a bad reputation as Britain’s most hated cyclist, but so be it – I’m proud of what I do.

‘If I catch you, you are going to be very, very sorry. I’d rather act as a deterrent than see someone on the floor – it is like a war zone out there.’

He said: ‘Everyone must remember: we have a right to ride a bike but it’s a privilege to use a car – and you can lose it at any time.’

Mr Sherry started filming dodgy drivers cycling from Harlow to his east London bus depot two-and-a-half years ago after he was involved in an accident.

He said: 'Someone hit the back of my bike and the police said they couldn’t do anything because it’s my word against them.

'That spurred me on, so I went and got my cameras.'
