Britain's best plasterer is single mum from Birmingham who quit her desk job in her 30s
A single mum from Birmingham has been named Britain's best plasterer after leaving her desk job to pursue a career in the trade. Dee Prosser, from Sutton Coldfield, quit an unfulfilling role in her 30s.
Now, she champions women working in trades through social media, inspiring others by sharing expertise and demonstrating that success is achievable, regardless of age or background. The Midlands-based tradeswoman, who owns Politely Plastered, was crowned Plasterer of the Year at an awards event on Thursday, November 21.
Judges at the On The Tools Awards 2024 said: “Dee’s innovative and engaging social content reflects her passion and support for the plastering community.” The mum, who has over 6,000 followers on her Instagram channel, claimed the top spot in a ceremony celebrating and recognising "exceptional talent" in the UK construction sector.

She posted to her Instagram: "Full of gratitude after a brilliant night at the On the Tools Awards night. I am beyond happy. I want to thank those who have believed in me, those who gave me a chance and opportunity to do what I enjoy, those who have inspired me and the people I work with day after day."
Each winner received a trophy and £1,000 in prize money. Lee Wilcox, co-founder and CEO of On The Tools, said: “This year marked a special milestone for us at On The Tools – celebrating ten incredible years!
"What started as a small community has grown into a movement, one that champions and connects tradespeople all across the UK. I couldn’t be prouder of the journey we’ve been on, and the awards were a huge part of that celebration.
"For a decade, we’ve been shining a spotlight on the incredible work tradespeople do. They’re the backbone of this country, keeping homes warm, communities thriving, and projects moving forward. The awards honoured not only their skills, but their grit, determination, and unwavering spirit.
"It’s their stories that inspire us all, and as we reflect on ten years of On The Tools, we’re more committed than ever to celebrating and supporting our industry. A huge thank you to our amazing sponsors and partners who helped make this event possible, and to all who joined us for such a special night. Here’s to another decade of championing the UK’s brilliant tradespeople!”
