Britain’s best takeaway is named - and it’s a fried chicken shop in Luton

Luton isn’t exactly famous as a tourist destination – but a family-run chicken shop in the Bedfordshire town has been crowned Britain’s best takeaway.

Chicken George was praised for using local ingredients – and giving free chicken to pensioners after bingo.

Chicken George triumphed over 26,000 eateries in the competition to take home a £6,000 prize.

It was one of the first independent chicken shops in Britain, set up by ex-KFC worker Ray Sheah 30 years ago.

It’s now run by his daughter Su.
