Britain's Got Talent filming cancelled after Liam Payne's death
Britain's Got Talent judge Simon Cowell has cancelled filming for the reality TV competition following Liam Payne's death.
The former One Direction singer died aged 31 after allegedly falling from a balcony at a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
It has been reported the musician was in the country alongside his girlfriend Kate Cassidy to attend the concert of his former bandmate Niall Horan.
Filming for the latest season of BGT began this week with returning judges Cowell, Amanda Holden, and Alesha Dixon, as well as KSI standing in for Bruno Tonioli.
In a statement posted to its social media pages, Applause Store, who sells tickets to the live BGT show, announced that auditions set to take place today (October 17) would not be going ahead.
It said: "Due to the tragic passing of Liam Payne, BGT has decided to postpone today’s auditions in Blackpool. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."
Payne first rose to fame after competing on The X Factor, where One Direction was formed with bandmates Horan, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik.
The group went on to achieve stratospheric success before disbanding in 2016, becoming one of the best-selling boybands of all time.
He went on to pursue a solo career, releasing hit single 'Strip That Down' in 2019 which reached number three in the UK singles chart.
As a solo artist, Payne sold over 18 million singles and a whopping 2.4 million albums after releasing his debut solo album LP1 in 2019.
Payne is survived by his son Bear, whom he welcomed in 2017 while in a relationship with singer Cheryl.
Following his death, Buenos Aires police said in a statement (via The Guardian): "Liam James Payne, composer and guitarist, former member of the band One Direction, died today after falling from the third floor of a hotel in Palermo."
