Stavros Flatley, the father-son duo that won the hearts of millions when they debuted their Greek-inspired Irish dance routine on Britain’s Got Talent back in 2009, have announced that they are splitting up.

For the last few weeks, Lagi and Demi Demetriou have been taking part in Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions, competing against BGT favourites such as singers Collabro, Connie Talbot and Paul Potts, stand-up comedian Lee Ridley AKA Lost Voice Guy, sword-swallower Alexandr Magala, dog act and season four runners-up, dancing duo Twist and Pulse.

Now, the former has said that the upcoming final on Saturday 5 October will prove the perfect last show for them to perform together.

“We’ve done this for 10 years for a joke,” the 23-year-old told The Sun, explaining that he wants to leave showbiz behind in order to concentrate on his career as a barber.

“We’ve done so many amazing things but what is there left to do? We’ve done the Royal Variety, we’ve played in China, Monaco - everywhere. So when we got to The Champions, I thought this was the right time to leave.”

He went on to explain that his father Demi plans to continue the act with his 17-year-old nephew Samson, but that doesn’t mean that we’ll never see Lagi opposite his pops on stage ever again.

“Simon Cowell told me not to quit forever,” he laughed, suggesting that nothing is set in stone when it comes to putting on his dancing shoes once again later down the line.

Since finding fame on BGT a decade ago, Lagi and Demi spend most of their time in Cyprus. Having given up running a restaurant in the UK, the latter now runs a water sports business overseas.

“He has a six-pack,” Demi said of his future partner. “I’ve given up getting one of those.”
