The British Airways hostess who filmed a Snapchat video where she made a racist ‘joke’ about Nigerian passengers has denied she was sacked.

Joanne Wickenden is no longer an employee of the airline after the clip of herself, that was captioned ‘I can’t cope with this flight’, made its way online.

But the 23-year-old from Fareham, Hampshire, insists she was NOT sacked – claiming she quit the airline herself.

She told MailOnline: “I wasn’t sacked. I resigned. I’d had enough and I didn’t want to fly anymore.”

When asked whether Ms Wickenden was sacked or quit, a British Airways spokeswoman told Yahoo News UK: “She no longer works for British Airways.”

The company earlier said: “We expect the utmost professionalism from our staff when they are representing British Airways.”

The minute-long video showed the former air hostess swearing and making racist jokes about Nigerians.

But Ms Wickenden claims she was “set up” by colleagues.

She added: “They were sending me videos and asking me questions, encouraging me and egging me on to do impressions.

“Unknown to me they were recording this conversation on their phone and send the footage around to others.”

Ms Wickenden made comments about the genitalia of male Nigerian passengers whilst mimicking their accents and making suggestive gestures.

She says in the clip: “All the Nigerians are gonna be there like ‘gimme Coca Cola, gimme me beef, why you have no beef left? I want beef.

“And I’m just gonna be there like, ‘Sorry sir, we ran out of beef’.”

Using the term ‘BBC’ as a reference to their genitalia, she adds: “All the Nigerians are gonna be there asking for f****** upgrades because they haven’t got enough leg room because their BBCs are in their way.”

A friend of Ms Wickenden defended the flight attendant’s video, telling MailOnline: “She’s not racist, it was a joke between two friends.

“It wasn’t meant to be racist. She is not saying she dislikes Nigerians and she’s not saying that anyone is better than anyone else.”
