British Gas, OVO, EDF, EON and Octopus customers have been handed the exact temperature to set their boiler at as snow hits the UK AGAIN this weekend. Fresh forecasts from WX Charts, which uses Met Desk data, shows temperatures plunging on November 22 and November 23.

Plumbing pro David Doran from Blackstone Plumbing and Heating Ltd says even though the temptation to blast the heat on freezing days is high, make sure you are setting it between 18-20C. He told British Gas, OVO, EDF, EON and Octopus customers keeping the thermostat at a steady 18 degrees minimises the chances of your pipes icing over.

Many modern heating systems feature a "frost protection" setting designed to maintain your house's temperature above zero. If British Gas, OVO, EDF, EON and Octopus customers are set to travel, don't switch the heating off completely.

Instead, British Gas, OVO, EDF, EON and Octopus customers should drop the temperature to around 15-17C (59-63F) when asleep or out of the house. You could also set regular heating periods throughout the day to keep your pipes warm and minimise the risk of them freezing over, he told British Gas, OVO, EDF, EON and Octopus customers.

David suggests to British Gas, OVO, EDF, EON and Octopus customers to ensure they are getting their boiler checked annually for safe and efficient operation. Regular servicing can detect leaks, blockages, and check the safety of devices, helping to prevent serious issues like gas leaks or carbon monoxide poisoning, he explained.

He also added that, not only does this improve efficiency and help save on energy bills at a time where the British Gas, OVO, EDF, EON and Octopus price cap from Ofgem looks set to soar in January again, but many warranties and insurance policies also necessitate annual servicing, he went on to say.
