British Hikers Rescue Wounded Deer Trapped in Fence

A group of hikers helped rescue a deer trapped in a fence in woodland in Telford, England, on June 26.

Local resident Steven Bowers was meeting members of a local walking group in Limekiln Woods when they came across the stricken deer. Bowers said the deer had attempted to jump the fence but got trapped and “tore the flesh from its bones with the struggle to break free.”

“The deer was exhausted and its leg was cold and was hanging upside down,” he added.

Video by Bowers shows three members of the group work together to free the critter from the fence. They then contacted local wildlife rescue group Cuan Wildlife Rescue.

Writing about the rescue on Twitter, Cuan Wildlife Rescue said the deer suffered some “nasty wounds” but did not break any bones.

“We have a long road ahead of us, and another check with the vet tomorrow, but we’re keeping everything crossed for you, little one,” they said. Credit: Steven Bowers via Storyful
