A British man has died after being knocked down on a German motorway where he was apparently trying to take a selfie.

The man was with two friends when he was hit by a car on the A24 Autobahn in Gudow, near Hamburg, at around 11.40am on Sunday.

In a statement, police in the nearby city of Lubeck said witnesses reported seeing the three men taking “cell phone pictures of themselves”.

The victim, thought to be 22 and from Scotland, was reportedly hit by an Audi A6 that was being driven by a 73-year-old man.

He and the two other men had stayed in Hamburg before travelling to the area by train and police have reportedly said they may have been drinking before the crash.
