A British mountain biker has been killed by a stray bullet while riding in woodland in the French Alps, according to the AFP news agency.
The man, 34, was cycling on a “well-used” track near Montriond, close to the Swiss border.
The 22-year-old who shot him has been taken to hospital “in shock”.
French prosecutors have launched an enquiry for “aggravated manslaughter”.
The Foreign Office confirmed the man’s death in a statement.
