British woman in coma after falling through Ibiza hotel window in flip-flop accident

A British woman has been placed in an induced coma after falling out of a window at an Ibiza hotel.

Monica McGeachie was celebrating her 30th birthday on the island when the accident occurred on 28 July.

The Argyll and Bute resident was in the Piscis Park Hotel restaurant when she lost her flip-flop and leaned back on a window for balance.

Mc McGeachie did not realise the window pane was empty and fell through the frame, according to STV.

She dropped 12ft onto concrete below.

The 30-year-old sustained swelling on her brain, broke her back and both ankles.

She was placed in an induced coma at a hospital in Ibiza, where she has remained for three weeks.

A Just Giving fund to support her family and recovery has raised nearly £10,000.

The page was set up by Angela Malcolm.

”Thank you to each and every one of you for your overwhelming generosity,” she said.

“This means so much to the family. Sending love to you all.”

“It’s horrible, really bad. I was totally gone. If my friends weren’t there I don’t know what I would have done. I couldn’t think,” Kent McGeachie, the 30-year-old’s brother, said.

“She’s my baby sister, we are really close. We are distraught,” he added, according to The Scottish Sun.

“It feels surreal,” JoAnne McGeachie, the 30-year-old’s sister said.

“It feels like something you see on the news – you don’t ever think it will happen to you.”
