Britney Spears And Ex-Manager Sam Lutfi End Seven-Year Legal Battle

It has been reported that Britney Spears has reached a ‘six figure settlement’ with her former manager. Lutfi filed a defamation case against the pop star and her family and claimed they blamed him for her breakdown in 2008.

A judge threw out Lutfi’s defamation case in 2012 but the manager appealed and a trial was due to take place in Los Angeles next month. To avoid paying extra legal fees, Spears settled with Lutfi “in the low six figures” but less than the estimated $500,000 it may have cost to continue in court.

The former colleagues met in 2007 when the star was embroiled in a divorce from Kevin Federline and a bitter a custody battle over their sons Preston, 10, and Jaden, nine. In 2008, the 34-year-old singer was admitted to a psychiatric ward and placed under the conservatorship of her father Jamie Spears and attorney Andrew Wallet.

In court documents obtained by TMZ, Lutfi was seeking “unpaid earnings” and said Spears had “struggled with drug abuse” and at one point, she was found sleeping in a parking lot on the day she lost custody of Preston and Jaden.

Lutfi also claimed he agreed to manage Britney on the conditions that she stayed off drugs and he could use sniffer dogs to make sure she stayed sober, and that he could assemble a team.

Spears’ family claimed though she tried to stay clean, it was Lutfi who supplied the star with the drugs.

Following her full recovery, the chart topper embarked on her Las Vegas Peace of Me residency and her career has gone from strength to strength.

Lutfi has since managed the career of Courtney Love and earlier this year, he was accused of kidnapping her daughter Frances Bean Cobain’s estranged husband.
