Just last year, Liam Payne was on hand at the BRIT Awards to accept an award on behalf of One Direction.

"I know I speak on behalf of the rest of the boys when I say we can't believe we're still winning these and the sheer devotion that are fans have shown us is absolutely amazing," he said while picking up the award for British Artist Video of the Year.

"We've been taking some time out and working on our solo material but One Direction is who we are and who we'll always be. This one's for you."

Well, jump forward 11 months to yesterday's BRIT Awards nominations announcement, and now three of the 1D guys are fighting it out in the same category.

Awkward.

Yes, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and former 1D member Zayn Malik are all going head-to-head in the British Artist Video of the Year category this year.

Harry's been nominated for the video for his debut single 'Sign of the Times', Liam for 'Strip That Down' and Zayn is nominated for his Fifty Shades Darker soundtrack song 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' with Taylor Swift.

The BRITs' British Artist Video of the Year award is voted for by fans who can keep their favourites in the running for the award by voting for them on Twitter using the dedicated hashtags.

The initial load of nominations features 10 acts, but one act will be eliminated at the end of each week during the voting period until there are just five left during the night of the awards show.

Alongside the 1D face-off, other acts and videos in the running include Anne Marie's 'Ciao Adios', Calvin Harris ft. Pharrell, Katy Perry and Big Sean's 'Feels', Clean Bandit ft. Zara Larsson's 'Symphony', Dua Lipa's 'New Rules', Ed Sheeran's 'Shape of You', Jonas Blue ft William Singe's 'Mama' and Little Mix's 'Touch'.

The 38th BRIT Awards will be held on February 21 at the O2 Arena, with ITV airing the ceremony.
