Broad Street tram conductor attack sparks CCTV appeal

A tram conductor was attacked in a late-night assault on a Birmingham city centre service. It happened on a West Midlands Metro tram heading along Broad Street on Saturday, July 20.

The tram was heading towards Edgbaston, between Brindleyplace and Five Ways, just before 11pm when the attack took place. The tram conductor was repeatedly punched in the face,

Now British Transport Police has issued an image of a man officers would like to speak to. He was black with curly dark hair and sideburns and wore black glasses and a black and grey hooded top or coat.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “We are today issuing an image following an assault on a tram conductor. The incident happened shortly before 11pm on Saturday, July 20 when the conductor of a West Midlands Metro tram travelling along Broad Street between Brindleyplace and Five Ways was repeatedly punched in the face.

“Officers believe the man in the image may have information that could help their investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016, or by calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference number 884 of 20 July. Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
