Broadchurch returns to ITV next week for its third and final series... and it really does sound like that's our lot.

Speaking to press including Digital Spy, series producer Dan Winch cast doubt on the likelihood of any potential spin-off - so don't expect to see David Tennant's Alec Hardy solving crimes in a new town.

"It wouldn't be true to Broadchurch if we did a spin-off, because so much about Broadchurch is where it's set," Winch suggested. "It wouldn't warrant a spin-off, because you need to have the same ingredients - the fantastic cliffs and the amazing views...

"If you imagine taking one of those elements away, it wouldn't be Broadchurch, and I think that's the thing that would prevent us from doing anything else beyond this."

So there you have it. The main problem in launching a Broadchurch spin-off? Scenery.

Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall previously appeared to rule out any revival of the crime drama, saying the creative team have "told the story we want to tell, in its entirety" after three series.

"I feel like there's a sense of a story closing and ending... and also going back to its beginning," he hinted. "I hope it's satisfying."

Tennant and Olivia Colman will return to Broadchurch one last time, with their odd-couple coppers Hardy and Ellie Miller working together on a sexual assault case.

Broadchurch returns to ITV on Monday (February 27) at 9pm.
