A broken down train is causing disruption on the Nottingham to Worksop line on Saturday evening (November 9). The train is understood to have broken down at a mid-point on the line at Mansfield, affecting trains between Mansfield and Nottingham and associated branch lines.

As a result, there will be alterations and cancellations to a large number of local services into the evening as East Midlands Railways (EMR) has warned that the disruption could last "for the next few hours". EMR says that its driver is in contact with the maintenance team, which is assisting with locating the fault.

Among trains disrupted are:

  • 16:39 Worksop to Nottingham due 17:50 will be delayed at Shirebrook.

  • 16:59 Nottingham to Mansfield Woodhouse due 17:35 will be cancelled.

  • 17:26 Nottingham to Worksop due 18:33 will be cancelled.

  • 17:41 Mansfield Woodhouse to Nottingham due 18:21 will be cancelled.

  • 18:39 Worksop to Nottingham due 19:50 will be cancelled.

  • 18:41 Mansfield Woodhouse to Nottingham due 19:14 will be cancelled.

  • 19:39 Worksop to Nottingham due 20:50 will be cancelled.

  • Facilities on the 20:25 Nottingham to Worksop due 21:34.
Will be formed of 2 coaches instead of 3.

  • Facilities on the 21:39 Worksop to Nottingham due 22:53.
Will be formed of 2 coaches instead of 3.

An EMR statements said: "At present we are expecting the problem to be fixed in the next two hours. As soon as the problem is fixed our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect our advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 7pm. (This was later revised to 8pm).

"We are currently looking at alternative arrangements to keep you on the move. Please remember that this can take time and be assured that our team are working tirelessly to arrange this as quickly as possible for you. We appreciate your patience whilst we do this."

Footnote: Just before 6pm, EMR said that the broken down train was on the move again at Mansfield but it added that trains would still be disrupted and that "our priority now will be to get our timetable restored, on the Worksop/Mansfield/Nottingham route this evening". Trains running through the area between Worksop and Nottingham are now able to run but will still be disrupted in both directions, as train crew and units are out of place.
