Warning: This article contains spoilers for Brooklyn Nine-Nine season four, episode 13.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine returned last night (April 11) in the US and took no time in resolving whether or not Gina survived.

Gina (Chelsea Peretti) was hit by a bus in the mid-season finale, but while it turned out that she technically died – for two minutes, allowing her to see an ethnically ambiguous female God – she was resuscitated much to the delight of everyone.

Co-creator Dan Goor has revealed to TVLine that he was surprised by the "level of internet concern" over her fate, meaning they chose to solve the cliffhanger in the cold open.

"We knew people loved her – but it felt clear to us that we would never kill off a beloved character. So I think once we read [the fans'] tweets... we realised we really should pay it off almost instantly and let people know what's going on," he explained.

And the way they did it was VERY Gina, with her dancing to Salt-N-Pepa's 'Push It' despite being in a medical halo and screaming in agony.

"Once that idea of her dancing in the halo was pitched, it was clear that that was the way to start the episode," Goor recalled.

"At the beginning of the season, Chelsea came into the writers' room and we discussed different ideas. One of the things we talked about... was putting her in a medical halo, and so in a way, the tail was really wagging the dog.

"She got hit by a bus because we wanted to put her in the halo."

But, never fear, Gina will be back fighting fit in the episodes to come although, naturally, she'll mention her recovery "a few times".

Brooklyn Nine-Nine airs on Fox in the US and returns to E4 in the UK on Thursday, April 20 at 9pm.
