'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' dog Cheddar has died - after enjoying last day out at the beach

Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s canine star Stewart has been sent to doggy heaven.

The 13-year-old corgi - who starred as Cheddar, Captain Holt’s ‘cute secret weapon in the the hit cop comedy - has been put to sleep after spending one last special day at the beach with his owner.

A post on his Instagram page announced: “My precious boy Stewart crossed the rainbow bridge today.

“We went to the beach (his favourite place) where he frolicked in the surf and then enjoyed a picnic lunch of In & Out burgers. We relaxed in the sun and just enjoyed each other’s company.

“Our veterinarian met us there later and Stewart went to sleep peacefully in my arms while listening to the sounds of the ocean.

“He was a one in a million kind of dog, he was my supaah staah.”

Cheddar has become a star of the show in his own right in the NBC comedy and was the ring bearer at Jake (Andy Samberg) and Amy’s (Melissa Fumero) wedding at the end of season five.

Stewart served the longest time in the role of Cheddar, who was played by various dogs over the series. He is survived by his sister Stella.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine is set in the fictional 99th Precinct of the New York City Police Department in Brooklyn.

It was cancelled by Fox after five season but picked up by NBC. It has been confirmed for a seventh season.
