A Brooklyn Nine-Nine cast member is teasing the "f**king epic" exit episode of one of their co-stars.

Last month, Chelsea Peretti - who plays the incomparable and uncompromising Gina Linetti - announced that she would be bowing out early from the show's sixth season, which was picked up by NBC after being dropped by Fox earlier this year.

The sitcom will return to screens on January 10 next year, and Melissa Fumero, who plays Amy Santiago, is already teasing that Gina's send-off will be something special indeed.

"It's f**king epic," she told TV Line.

"It's such a great Gina episode. Her grand finale is with Amy and Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz), as it should be.

"She has stuff with everybody, but they paired her with us [at the end] and we had so much fun shooting that last week. It was bittersweet and sad and we definitely cried, [but they were] happy tears."

Showrunner Dan Goor added: "I can tease that Gina departs in a very Gina Linetti-esque way.

"[Chelsea] is really one of the funniest people in the world and a great actress and I think all of that comes out in her exit."

News of Gina's departure follows the announcement that this series will also be the shortest yet.

Noooo!!

Brooklyn Nine-Nine returns January 11 on NBC in the US.
